One Deep Breath - "Nurture"

"Hand-Me-Downs"

Baby - whose feet once
fit in my palm - now passes
his old shoes to me.

Today my husband picked up a new pair of size 10-1/2 Converse high-tops for our older son. Guess who inherited his size 9s? Mom!

One Deep Breath - Poetry of the Sea

Tentacles unfurl -
An octopus attacking?
No, green fronds of fern!

Spring Promises

Springing from cold earth
tender green stems give hopeful

One Deep Breath - "Breath"

Defeated, angry,
he struggles to catch his breath
and won't meet my eyes.

In contrast to the giddy high of his gold medal, this is a picture of my son after a hard-fought losing battle. He probably wouldn't like to show it, but I think it is beautiful to see him collecting his thoughts... catching his breath... learning from the loss... deciding how to proceed. A crucial moment. A tipping point on the scale - how to react to loss? Depression or determination?

glow on my kitchen table
their perfume has spilled.

My Teenager

My son is thirteen.
Just as tall, his eyes meet mine,
love reflecting back.

My baby is a teenager! He had his belated birthday party this weekend - five friends, paintball and pizza. He had already had his family celebration, but we stuck candles in the pizza again for fun. He is an awesome young man. I love you, "Beau" !
