Self Portrait Challenge - New Year's Resolution "Be Affirming"

I am a quiet person.

In the words of one personality book, I'm a "Melancholy."

In the words of another, I'm an "Avoider."

In the DISC model, I'm a "C" (Cautious).

Consequently, one of the reaccurring issues of my 20 year relationship

with my outgoing, passionate husband has been my talking -

lack of.

So once again, one of my resolutions this year

is to be affirming.

Verbally.

Often!

It works real good.

Self Portrait Challenge - New Year's Resolution "Create Daily"

Actually this self-portrait can represent two of my resolutions. One is to create daily; if not a "big" painting or drawing project, at least a few minutes sketch journaling. I can already see that in the nine months I've been blogging that my art has improved so much just from the practice. One of the major factors has been participating in Illustration Friday. The second resolution is to sell art this year - either by selling at a show or by getting an illustration contract. And opportunities to do that keep popping up everywhere. It's going to be a great year!

Self Portrait Challenge - New Year's Resolution 2

Another resolution of mine is to NOT look my age. And this year, at age 40, that is going to involve regular hair coloring! I have reached the point where plucking is no longer an option. So this week, I threw back the clock five years with my friend L'oreal.
P.S. If you want to see how resolution #1 is going, you'll have to come here.

Self-Portrait Challenge - "New Year's Resolution: Weight Loss"

UPDATE Jan. 15: Drumroll, please! 5.5 pounds lost! Equal to a bag of sugar AND a box of noodles - two things I'm avoiding!
Update Jan. 8: 4 boxes of 14 oz. cereal = 3.5 pound lost so far!

"How can we express our new year resolutions through photography and self portraiture? …"

I have seen several blog pals participate in the Self Portrait Challenge over the past months and I decided to check it out. The way it works is that each month a theme is posted and you can enter a photo for it each week. This month's theme "New Year's Resolutions" is too juicy to resist, so I'm in.

One of the most cliched of resolutions - weight loss. I started this resolution early, after I downloaded the camera on Christmas day and saw myself on the slideshow. Eeep! Actually, before I saw the SPC theme, I had thought it would be interesting, and perhaps motivating, to record visually the amount of weight that I had lost so far. So, here it is, after one week - 2.5 lbs lost - equal to one bag of powdered sugar and a jar of marshmallow creme (appropriate, no?).
