Who Do YOU Love?
One of my new friends from the local artists' networking group, Kathleen, gave me a call yesterday and let me know about a 10-week Children's Illustration class that is starting next month. It is being taught by a local illustrator, Craig Orback, and will teach how to get into the field and "get noticed." Wow! What fun! Thanks for thinking of me, Kathleen! I'm going to take it!
That got me thinking of all the fabulous illustrators that have inspired me over the years. You know, the ones whose work you just LOVE to look at, again and again, admiring the skill, the originality, and wishing that, maybe, someday... I have to say that my two favorite inspirations, besides my Gramma and my Aunt Jeri, have got to be Mary Engelbreit and Marjolein Bastin. I could look at their stuff all day! I know that Mary uses pen, Prismacolor markers, and colored pencils like I do and I would LOVE to paint like Marjolein. I think I get my journaling-around-flowers idea from her. Anyhow, there are lots and lots more and I have collected some children's books just for the illustrations, but those are my main two. So, come on, take a second and tell me, who do YOU love?

I don't know many artists by name, but I'm impressed with everyone's drawings, especially since I don't think I can draw worth a toot.
(As for allergies, my youngest is allergic to everything -- and I mean EVERYTHING -- just on a level six he's allergic to wheat, dairy, soy, peanuts and eggs. And yes, feeding him is a big pain in the butt. I feel your pain.)
Oh, as soon as I saw your second photo, I knew exactly who it was!!! I have one of her books called "Nature's Sketchbook" and I have always loved browsing through it again, and again, and again. Just found your blog and I love it!!!
hurray! what a wonderful time you'll have. can't wait to see the fruits of your labor.
I love Mary Engelbreit too - her story is very inspiring!
I have so many illustrators I admire - lots on great illustrators on Illustration Friday too!
