N-O F-U-N!

Conversation with my 12-1/2 year old son this morning: I am sitting in a chair, he is lying in the orthodontist's chair with his lips retracted, suction attached, waiting for the cement on his new braces to harden. I am speaking, he is finger-spelling to me.
Him:"H-O-W M-U-C-H L-O-N-G-E-R?"
Me: "3 minutes, I think."
Him: "I-M G-L-A-D Y-O-U A-R-E H-E-R-E!"
Me: "I'm glad too, babe."
Him: "N-O-W I'M G-L-A-D Y-O-U M-A-D-E M-E L-E-A-R-N T-H-E A-S-L
A-B-C-S!"
Me: "Yes, not many people are able to communicate with their mouth full of stuff like that!"
Him: "I'M H-A-P-P-Y T-H-A-T I C-A-N. T-H-A-N-K G-O-D!"
(He sits up a second and takes a peek at himself in the mirror.)
Him: "I-M G-L-A-D Y-O-U A-R-E T-H-E O-N-L-Y W-I-T-N-E-S-S"
My brave boy! What a trooper!

Oh braces, remember them not-so-fondly - he's a good boy to take it so well.

Must teach my eldest to finger spell, just in case!

Ouch. The "braces years" were not the best for me.

The trouble of having braces is just about worth it for the feeling of running your tongue over your teeth for the first time when they come off!

We will be seeing those n our houshold within the next 3 years. It doesn't look like any fun at all. Maybe weshould start working on the A-B-C's. Right now all I know is J-E-A-N-N-I-E. We have some catching up to do.
