Happy Trails, Giraffe-boy!

Yesterday I finished a silly painting for a dear little giraffe-loving boy. I had no idea what to get him for a gift, since I don't get to see him often, and I think 5 is a little young for gift cards or cash. So I made him a painting for his room, showing him riding his favorite animal and packing his faithful blankie sidekick (which I noticed in every one of his photos at Christmastime!) Happy Birthday, dude! This will be in the mail as soon as the varnish is dry!

Painted with acrylics on an 8 x 10 stretched canvas, with Sharpie outlines and a photo face attached.

I love the boy on the Giraffe, my son's name is Ian, I could only draw things that are in front of me (you know copy) but I can't seem to draw it out of my own head. any suggestions.

Hi Brenda! That is what I did to begin with, copying lots of things. After a while, you develop a "library" of things in your head. I suggest using google images or flickr to find photos of your subjects, and sketch often! For the giraffe I googled "giraffe" and found a good closeup of the head, and then a body shot and then drew from those!
