Last night I went to the SAM (Seattle Art Museum) to see the visiting show, "Inspiring Impressionism." It was really interesting how it was set up, showing some Impressionist paintings along with older paintings that may have inspired the artists to paint them. It is so amazing to see some of the paintings that I have studied in books and seen in prints - for real! If you've ever seen the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls or the giant redwoods in person, you know what I mean - the photos and prints are beautiful, but give the merest shadow of the impact of the real experience!
These were two of my favorites from the show, Cezanne's peaches and El Greco's beautiful lady.
