Illustration Friday - "Sprout"

OK, I haven't been doing Illustration Friday lately - I've been preoccupied with painting birds! But the topic this week, "Sprout," reminded me of an ink doodle I did a few months ago in my sketchbook, so I scanned it and gave it a little color on the computer. We all need to keep growing! Our minds, our skills, our faith, our love! "You're either green and growing, or ripe and rotting!" So get growing!

Really great use of line and pattern. I love the touch of bright green against the other more muted colors. By the way...your bird painting is wonderful! What brand acrylics did you end up getting?

Hi again - I can't wait to see the bluebird! As far as mixing brands, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I use Golden acrylics, but I do have some tubes of liquitex that I also use, because I have them and I don't want to not use them! I like Golden better...they seem to have stronger pigments...so I will buy the Golden equivalent when I use up the few colors of liquitex i have lying around. If you ever get a chance to take one of the free Golden workshops that are held at local art stores, you should take advantage. They give out a nice swag bag, and you can learn a lot about the different varieties of paints, mediums, and so on. There are also workshops that cost money, and they look really interesting Take a look on the Golden website. I am linking to the workshops for NW US.
