One Deep Breath - "Breath"

Defeated, angry,
he struggles to catch his breath
and won't meet my eyes.

In contrast to the giddy high of his gold medal, this is a picture of my son after a hard-fought losing battle. He probably wouldn't like to show it, but I think it is beautiful to see him collecting his thoughts... catching his breath... learning from the loss... deciding how to proceed. A crucial moment. A tipping point on the scale - how to react to loss? Depression or determination?

Sometimes in the loss, more is gained.

Your haiku and picture is moving.

I love your take on the prompt! Defeat definitely teaches us wisdom when it comes to expressing our emotions. Very thoughtful.

You couldn't have had a better shot to show this feeling. Very nice haiku.

Thank you for sharing this. It is a lovely poem and a great photo...as you say, you can see him pulling himself together internally. A good reminder that often we learn more from defeat than from victory.

As the saying goes You win some, you lose some.

Losing makes you stronger I think. Great haiku.
