Defeated, angry,
he struggles to catch his breath
and won't meet my eyes.
jIn contrast to the giddy high of his gold medal, this is a picture of my son after a hard-fought losing battle. He probably wouldn't like to show it, but I think it is beautiful to see him collecting his thoughts... catching his breath... learning from the loss... deciding how to proceed. A crucial moment. A tipping point on the scale - how to react to loss? Depression or determination?

really nice poem and picture.
Sometimes in the loss, more is gained.
Your haiku and picture is moving.
I love your take on the prompt! Defeat definitely teaches us wisdom when it comes to expressing our emotions. Very thoughtful.
awe that was too perfect, the expression of the pic and the haiku. Great job!
Aw, the poor fella- I can see the disappointment. Been there many times...
Thanks for sharing this bit with your son... we can all relate, I'm sure...
You couldn't have had a better shot to show this feeling. Very nice haiku.
Thank you for sharing this. It is a lovely poem and a great photo...as you say, you can see him pulling himself together internally. A good reminder that often we learn more from defeat than from victory.

As the saying goes You win some, you lose some.
